There are two types of membership in California Main Street Alliance.

Designated Members are Designated California Main Street Communities that were deemed a Designated Community by California Main Street, housed in the State of California's Trade and Commerce Department between 1986 and 2004, or by the Office of Historic Preservation (OHP), California State Parks Department between 2005 and the present, by successfully completing the certification process.

Their annual membership dues are $350, which includes coordination of annual reports and transmittal of aggregate figures to the National Main Street Center.

Associate Members are any person or organization interested in the mission of CAMSA, including aspiring communities who wish to become a designated community in the future by completing the certification process. Annual membership dues are $250.
